power invertor Assistive Info

Bought this for tailgating at Buffet. I was actually able to hook it up to a lawn tractor battery and power a blender. I wasn’t sure if the battery would have enough juice, but it worked great and was much easier to transport than a car or marine battery. Testing at home showed the low voltage alarms and whatnot work very well. I just wish this came with a cigarette lighter cord for those times you’re just using it on low-amp devices the way some other inverters do. Also, I agree with some other reviews that the mounting tab locations look like they would make getting the screws in there difficult. I haven’t tried mounting it, but the edges of the case definitely would get in the way. Creative DIYers would find a way to make it work, so no big deal.[keyword]power invertor[/keyword][babs_template]power+invertor, 3, , 41979, All, 0, 1344, [/babs_template]

I have had to send this unit back to Wagan twice. The first unit started to smoke when I tried to add 5 PSI to a tire up. The second units inverter never worked from the get go. I am now on my third unit and it experienced a “burning” smell when I was testing the inverter. I wish I could return this unit but it has been more than 30 days from when I bought the thing – I can only send the thing back to Wagan for exchange. Every time you send the unit to Wagan for warranty exchange they make the customer pay the freight and it takes over a month to get the replacement unit back. I have owned this unit for a little over 90 days, but due to having to exchange the thing twice I have only have the unit to use for 4 days. I am not satisfied at all!!!
This multi-purpose device has to be too good to be true, but so far, it is surpassing all of my expectations and has raised the bar.
It arrived on my front door two days after ordering with Free Super Server shipping!
The shipping box had a few air pillows one one side holding the actual product box in place inside.
It had a rough journey, but for arriving in two days after I ordered it, I really can’t complain.
The box opened easily and the unit was firmly packed in form-fitted styrofoam.
As I pulled the plastic off it, it looked great! The handle on top has a solid feel when gripped and all of the buttons, dials and attachments were in factory positions and ready for use.
I wanted to charge it up right away so that I could try it out before I go on vacation. The book says to charge for 36 to 48 hours. I charged it for twelve and tested all of the features and everything works as advertised.
Upon initial examination of the manual, I was temporarily disappointed because the picture did not look like what was sitting on the table in front of me. After I found another picture in the foreign language section that did match up, I realized that the unit has multiple buttons and dials on both sides! I had thought the meter and buttons on both sides were for the same purpose, but they are not.
There is an AM/FM radio with an audio input jack. I don’t plan on using this for that purpose, but knowing that it has it is a nice added bonus.
The LED light on the front is very bright (another bonus) and the voltimeter check button does it’s job and works quickly.
After I take it out camping, or need it to inflate a tire or charge up a device I will truly know if this device is as great as it appears. So far, I could not be happier.
Overall, my initial impression is that this is one amazing device. It looks great, it costs 25% less than competitive products with far less features and it’ll fit snugly under my truck’s back seat.
I do not know if I will ever get to use this device, but knowing that I have it in case of an emergency is a good feeling.
The picture does not do it justice, and for around $100.00, it is a very inexpensive device that will give me peace of mind on a cross country trip.
This is my third Wagan and each one has been a dud. This latest one I bought – PowerDome EX – won’t charge up even when I’ve plugged it in to its maximum alloted time. I’ve done this three times and still, won’t work. The outside looks new but I wonder if they stuck an old battery in there. It’s such a pain to get it replaced. The one I bought last year – PowerDome 2354 – lasted one month and the charging receptacle broke on the battery side. The Wagan customer service guy said there’s nothing they could do about it! He told me to take it apart and fix it myself. The first unit I bought several years ago, only lasted one year. The third time’s it. No more Wagans. Overall, I’d say if you’re going to review a product, better to give it some longevity rather than reviewing it shortly after you buy it. My experience with three over four years should give you a pretty good idea of how poorly made these power supplies are.
I’ve had the unit for only 2 weeks, but took it on a week long camping trip. I used it every day to power my portable XM radio and use the ipod jack to listen. Also used the compressor many times to fill bike tires and soccer balls.
the manual is pretty poor, but it’s very easy to figure out the features. one key – to enable the USB power, the three position switch must be togged up. Toggle down gives you the 110vac sockets and you can hear a fan run when this is activated.
Radio speaker is small and tinny – but for listening to ball games and the news, it was just fine.
This Inverter does not come with a case as it says in the item description.
works as described. Nice heavy duty power cords. Have a little problem with one outlet not locked in place, time will tell if that will be its demise…
This is a great looking unit and seems to be built very well. I have installed it in my Motorhome and have not put it to the test yet of running my tv and X box. Mounting it was alot harder than I thought it was going to be. The bracket that they have on it is not as wide as the unit it self. So when you try and put bolts/screws into the bracket slots it is almost impossible. I was able to fit some round head 10-32 machine screws into the slot openings in the bracket. The problem is that when you try and put a screw driver to the screw head the body of the unit gets in the way. And I was mounting this on the underside of a shelf with little room beside the unit. I have it mounted and will never want to R&R it. Other wise a great price and really small for it,s wattage.
Product was of excellent quality and functions as advertised. I found the the 5 volt USB output to be a very useful feature.
I’ve had my 120W Wagan a few weeks and have used it twice. It is quite small, feels solid and seems decently made. Today I ran it for an hour with a pretty good load. I had intentionally depleted the battery in my Fujitsu P1610 notebook and then ran the computer while charging from the inverter. AC current measured 0.42A which is about 50 Watts, a bit under half the unit’s capacity. I figured this would be a worst case scenario for me when working in the field. The fan ran slowly at first and sped up as the unit heated up. Within 10 minutes its temperature seemed to stabilize and it never got hotter. It got quite warm to the touch but not hot, and the tiny fan was running fast, blowing heat out the end vents as intended. I ran it this way for an hour. Clearly there is at least some continuous duty capacity over the 50W I tested it at. It may very well be that it won’t produce the claimed 120W continuously, but it meets my 50W needs and it is tiny. I’m happy, and will stay happy as long as this thing doesn’t carp out.
Product failed the first day. Cheaply made. Uses a fan for a heat sink which makes a lot of noise. Not great for the car when listening to music. Did not filter out electric line noise. Still had some noise over my iPhone. Don’t buy! Plus side, adapter cord is long and the USB port for charging a mobile device is nice.
This product is falsely advertised as a unit you can plug into the armrest on an airplane. I recently flew on American Airlines and found no such plug available for this device! Do not waste your money on this product!
As soon as I plugged this inverter in it started smoking and sparks where shooting out it while I was holding it. Very dangerous. I returned it for a full refund……..Wagan Smart AC 120 Watt USB Power Inverter
We went through two of the Wagan EL2402s. The first arrived and a piece of solder fell out of one of the vents. May have been extraneous, but better to be safe than sorry, Amazon was great and overnighted a replacement. At best I can only give mixed reviews. The is supposed to be able to handle 200 Watts with a peak of 500 Watts.. Fairly substantial in print. In reality, things like battery chargers, cell phone chargers, etc., all seemed to be fine. Where the problems began were on more “specific” devices. We wanted the device for my wife to run a 35 Watt Chi hair straightener. It would not even turn on. The description says power tools, so I thought I’d given a try to a couple. First a sabre saw, again well under peak and normal wattage to be handled. Nothing, a blip when I pulled the trigger, then nothing. A Dewalt hand drill… well kinda sorta.. If you started out VERY slowly on revolutions and worked your way up, you could get to full speed. I didn’t try that under a load, but I assume it would work to a point.
I called Wagan, and they assumed some of the failures cames from the fact that AC devices are used to and built for a sine wave output. The Wagan (and I assume some others) don’t produce the exact same sine wave (calling it a modified sine wave). So, your own mileage may vary. Some Notebook AC Chargers may be more sensitive than others, so you probably can’t be sure. Again, I don’t know that Wattage alone is the delimiting factor. It may that your particular device just won’t work.
My advice, read the reviews.. If you have a particular device or devices you are thinking about running, perhaps check with the manufacturers of these different inverters. Remember electronics are pretty sensitive devices when it comes to power. While I may be willing to try a Chi hair straightener, I may not be as comfortable with a notebook.. Best bet there is to see if your manufacturer has a DC supply (Car/Airplane) adapter.
A little early for an in-depth review as we just recently purchased the inverter. At this point I can say that it has performed well. We have used it to charge cell phones as well as batteries for our camera and it functioned exactly as advertised. It is fan cooled and the fan operated well and there was no problem with noise. It was warm to the touch, but I believe it is normal for them to generate heat. The only way to make it run cooler would be to increase the fan size which in turn would increase the case size and make it less portable. Based on our initial experience, I would recommend it as an excellent purchase.
Like my Dell laptop, which is why I bought it. I had to take a road trip and had to complete work during and my Dell laptop won’t hold a charge for more than 30 minutes anymore. Anyway, upon plugging it in, a crackling noise came from the AC adapter and it didn’t start charging. My boyfriend’s MacBook Pro charges just fine through it, so I’m uncertain if it’s the charger or the laptop. It’s really nice to have the USB port for charging my iPhone. On the whole, I’m glad I made the purchase, but had a bad first-use experience.
I’ve had it for a couple of months, but there have been no problems so far. It does get a little on the warm side after a couple of hours of use, but maybe that is to be expected.
This unit appears to be built with a lot of quality. It has performed well so far but has not been tested during an actual power outage. My setup includes the Inverter/Charger and two 12 volt marine deep cycle batteries connected in parallel. I am powering a 5.0 amp sump pump. The unit will power the sump pump without any problems.
This product is all it was advertised to be. I am most pleased with the ability to monitor the battery charge level and the status of the powerverter. It’s UPS qualities are also a plus.
We have three of these running as UPS for extended long run. They work great. With a 100AmpH deep cycle battery, it can run three servers for 5 hours. The built-in three stage charger with battery and charge indicators show the status of the battery and inveter. Many adjustment dip switch to select different battery or switching voltage.
When AC lost, it will automatically switch to battery power in about 5 ms, so that computers have no downtime.
The only problem with them is that the float charge phase is always on. When power outage is not that frequent, it could cause battery being overcharged. I had contacted factory to see if we can turn that float charge off or off after certain hours to avoid the battery overcharge. But they told me there is no modification allowed. The result of that is the battery dying in about 18 month to two years.
Still, that is a much better solution than those regular UPS, since the battery in resular UPS can only last 15 minutes. During summer, when we have the rolling black, which lasts about two hours each time, we don’t have to shutdown our computers due to power outage.
